POSITION               Coordinator of Faith Formation and Youth Ministry

 

JOB SUMMARY   Plans, directs and oversees the catechetical and spiritual

formation for Saint Francis de Sales Parish

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Annual salary and benefits depend upon qualifications and experience
  • 40 hours work week, flexible scheduling including some weekend and evening activities
  • 12-month employment term
  • At-will employee
  • Effective June 1, 2018

 

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing
  • Committed to purposefully seeking holiness for themselves and growing as an intentional disciple of Jesus Christ
  • Must be a mature, self-starter with knowledge of Catholic faith formation
  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Theology, Catechetics, Youth Ministry or related field) OR a minimum of two years’ successful experience in Catholic faith formation
  • Practical experience leading or coordinating youth activities highly desirable
  • Possesses a charism of leadership
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, computer skills, a strong understanding of catechetical method and the ability to articulate Catholic Teaching
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer programs, including but not limited to, Word and Excel (or equivalent), and social media networking
  • Musical background helpful to facilitate Praise and Worship
  • Ability to read, prepare, and manage budgets for major events and programs
  • Ability to solve problems, make sound decisions, and deal with a variety of variables
  • Good sense of appropriate boundaries
  • Diocesan Virtus (Safe Environment) Certification required
  • Successful completion of background check
  • Two References required

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reports to the Pastor
  • Attends and participates in Staff meetings
  • Plans, directs and oversees the catechetical and spiritual formation and Sacramental preparation of youth K-12
  • Works with the Pastor, Youth Ministry Team, and staff to integrate all Catholic youth (grades K-12) into active participation in all current aspects of parish life, including youth ministry activities (formational, spiritual, service, and recreational), and to develop new programs and activities as needed, including opportunities for prayer, retreats, church camp, social outings, Vacation Bible School, etc.
  • Prepare annual budget for faith formation and youth ministry
  • Coordinate the recruitment, training, and evaluation of volunteers for religious education
  • Coordinate regularly scheduled and seasonal activities (i.e. Christmas Holidays, Holiday Weekends, Spring Break, etc.)
  • Supervise and direct adult volunteer catechists and ministry leaders
  • Keep current in new developments and directions in faith formation youth ministry
  • Foster a culture of discipleship among parishioners, particularly youth
  • Maintain accurate records and files
  • Keep accurate financial records for all ministry activities and programs and submit these records to the parish office on a monthly basis
  • Maintain effective means for publicizing and promoting programs/experiences among parishioners
  • Maintain active communication with other area Youth Ministers and with our diocesan Youth Ministry office in order to serve as a bridge builder with other Catholic parish groups and with the ecumenical community
  • Advocate for a comprehensive vision of youth ministry, based on the 1997 USCCB document, Renewing The Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry
  • Arrange for participation in diocesan-sponsored and other regional and national programs
  • Periodically assist with adult faith formation as directed by the Pastor
  • Other duties as assigned by the Pastor
